Paul Greatrix is Registrar at The University of Nottingham, author and creator of Registrarism and a Contributing Editor of Wonkhe.

We are now in the middle of TEF year two. Institutions (or ‘providers’ if you must) have made their submissions and assessors are now assessing. We’ll hear the outcomes (and submit the appeals) in a month or so (General Election permitting). But in the meantime, what songs are assessors listening to as they review the metrics and make their initial hypotheses?

My guess is that some of the following are on the TEF office turntable.

Note that five of the following are made up songs – guaranteed medal upgrade for your institution if you can identify them all:

Any others which should be on the TEF team playlist? [This should be made into a Spotify playlist surely? Ed.]

  1. Going For Gold – Shed Seven.

Rick Witter will be devastated to have been overlooked again. He wrongly thought the London Olympics would bring a bumper royalties return.

  2. Nice to see Hawkwind get a mention, although you are missing Nine Inch Nails with a potential selection of ‘Last’, ‘Right Where It Belongs’ , ‘Gave Up’ or ‘Something I Could Never Have’

  3. Being rather cynical –

    Little Lies – Fleetwood Mac
    Mustn’t Grumble – Chas n Dave
Any Old Iron – Harry Champion (if you are off the TEF scale)
Miserable Saturday Night – Chas n Dave (again for teams off the TEF scale)
