  • Mark Leach

    Founder and Editor, Wonkhe

    Mark Leach is the founder and Editor of Wonkhe. Mark worked in policy, politics and public affairs in and around UK higher education and founded Wonkhe in 2011 while working as a jobbing policy wonk in the sector. The first part of his career took him to the National Union of Students, HEFCE, University Alliance, GuildHE as well as a stint in politics as a special adviser to the former Shadow Minister for Universities & Science. Mark began full-time work on Wonkhe in mid-2014 turning it from a Sunday afternoon hobby to a growing company with a full-time team based in London.

    As Editor, Mark writes, commissions and edits articles on the site, edits and writes the Monday Morning HE Briefing and Wonkhe Daily email briefings and oversees and produces all other Wonkhe output. In his role as Director, Mark leads the team in London and works to develop Wonkhe’s products, partnerships and commercial activity. You can read more about everything that Wonkhe does here.

  • Claire Callender

    Professor of Higher Education, Birkbeck and UCL Institute of Education

    Claire is professor of higher education policy at Birkbeck and professor of higher education studies at UCL Institute of Education. Her research and writing has focused on student finances and issues related to the topic. She has been commissioned to undertake research for some of the most significant committees of inquires into student funding in the UK since 1997 and works on numerous research projects for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and others in higher education.

  • Carl Lygo

    Group Chief Executive, BPP Professional Education,Vice Chancellor BPP University

    Carl Lygo is formerly CEO of BPP Holdings Ltd and Vice Chancellor of BPP University. Carl is a qualified barrister, having practiced in London and Yorkshire, and is also a Professor of Laws. He holds a first class undergraduate degree in law as well as a higher research degree in law and further qualifications in business subjects. Carl has recently been included as one of the UK’s ‘Hot 100 lawyers’ by The Lawyer and recently Education Investor shortlisted Carl for the prestigious award of ‘most valuable contribution to Education by an individual’.

  • Thomas Veit

    Director of External Relations, University of Dundee

    Thomas Veit is Director of External Relations at the University of Dundee. Thomas worked for over 15 years in various brand and trade marketing roles in the UK and internationally. He successfully managed consumer brands such as Pimm’s, Johnnie Walker Whisky, Kronenbourg 1664 and Beck’s Bier, as well as others, whilst working for global FTSE100 companies such as Diageo and Scottish-Newcastle. In 2007 he decided to move back into the world of Higher Education in the UK and worked at De Montfort University, University of Birmingham and the University of Leicester before joining Dundee.

  • Andy Westwood

    Vice Dean for Social Responsibility, University of Manchester

    Andy Westwood is Vice Dean for Social Responsibility in the Faculty of Humanities and Professor of Government Practice at the University of Manchester. He is a member of HEFCE’s Strategic Advisory Board for Quality, Accountability and Regulation, and a Trustee of the National Union of Students. He is also a Visiting Professor of Further and Higher Education at the University of Wolverhampton, President of the OECD Forum on Social Innovation and an expert adviser to the IMF.
