    Editor, Wonkhe

    Mark Leach is the founder, Editor and Director of Wonkhe. Mark worked in policy, politics and public affairs in and around UK higher education and founded Wonkhe while working as a jobbing policy wonk in the sector. The first part of his career took him to the National Union of Students, HEFCE, University Alliance, GuildHE as well as a stint in politics as a special adviser to the former Shadow Minister for Universities & Science.   • Claire Callender

    Professor of Higher Education, Birkbeck and UCL Institute of Education

    Claire is professor of higher education policy at Birkbeck and professor of higher education studies at UCL Institute of Education. Her research and writing has focused on student finances and issues related to the topic. She has been commissioned to undertake research for some of the most significant committees of inquires into student funding in the UK since 1997 and works on numerous research projects for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and others in higher education.

    Carl Lygo is CEO of BPP Holdings Ltd and Vice Chancellor of BPP University. Carl is a qualified barrister, having practiced in London and Yorkshire, and is also a Professor of Laws. He holds a first class undergraduate degree in law as well as a higher research degree in law and further qualifications in business subjects. Carl has recently been included as one of the UK’s ‘Hot 100 lawyers’ by The Lawyer and recently Education Investor shortlisted Carl for the prestigious award of ‘most valuable contribution to Education by an individual’.

    Product Director, Hobsons

    Jamie O’Connell is Product Director for Hobsons. As one of the founders of The Student Room, the largest online student community, Jamie has worked directly to support students and the HE sector with the challenges they face in our increasingly competitive world. Over the years he has developed products and created opportunities for education providers, government and students themselves to better connect, share and communicate. Jamie attended Bangor University where he studied Zoology.

  • Thomas Veit

    Director of External Relations, University of Dundee

    Thomas Veit is Director of External Relations at the University of Dundee. Thomas worked for over 15 years in various brand and trade marketing roles in the UK and internationally. He successfully managed consumer brands such as Pimm’s, Johnnie Walker Whisky, Kronenbourg 1664 and Beck’s Bier, as well as others, whilst working for global FTSE100 companies such as Diageo and Scottish-Newcastle. In 2007 he decided to move back into the world of Higher Education in the UK and worked at De Montfort University, University of Birmingham and the University of Leicester before joining Dundee.

  • Andy Westwood

    Professor of Politics, University of Winchester

    Andy Westwood is Professor of FE and HE at the University of Wolverhampton. He is Chair of the OECD Forum on Social Innovation. He previously worked as Chief Executive of GuildHE, head of policy at The Work Foundation, director of the Centre for Economic and Social Inclusion and in Whitehall where he spent five years as a special adviser to ministers in the Treasury, Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
